Media Linguistics in Lithuania and in the World

On 2-6 July, 2017 representatives of Vilnius University (Director of the Institute of Foreign Languages ​​of Vilnius University, Prof. Dr. Roma Kriaučiūnienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anastasia Belovodskaja and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Viktorija Makarova) together with a colleague from Kaunas University of Technology (Prof. Dr. Vilmante Liubiniene) participated in the 2nd international scientific conference "Language in the Coordinates of the Mass Media", bringing together more than 250 representatives from 15 countries (Great Britain, Italy, China, India, Slovakia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, etc.). During the conference Lithuanian scientists presented their achievements in such a fast-growing field of research as new media linguistics and established relationships with other participants of the conference. An important event of the conference was the presentation of a new MA study programme "Media Linguistics". This programme was prepared by a group of the researchers of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Vilnius University, led by Prof. Dr. Danutė Balšaitytė. The idea of Master's programme "Media Linguistics" was promoted and its development was strongly supported by Media Linguistic Commission of the International Slavists Committee under the auspices of UNESCO

In order to ensure and maintain further cooperation among researchers of media linguistics, representatives of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Vilnius University together with Media Linguistic Commission and Field Committee of Linguistics of Discourse on 12-13 October 2017 organizes international round-table discussions on media linguistics ("Media Linguistics: Educational Paradigms", "The Main Tasks of Modern Media Education"; "Discourse Analysis and Other Qualitative and Quantitative Methods of Media Studies: how research methods narrow or widen our vision of the field and object of media studies?”) that will take place within the framework of the 7th international conference "Linguistic, Educational and Intercultural research (LEIC Research 2017)". The conference is organized by the Institute of Foreign Languages ​​of Vilnius university and the Faculty of Philology, Literature and Linguistics at the University of Cagliari (Italy).
